MUMBAI: Hindi GEC Colors is set to launch a new series titled ‘Devanshi’ on 3 October.
‘Devanshi’ will air at 7 pm while Colors’ current show ‘Thapki… Pyaar Ki’ will move to 6.30 pm.
Produced by Full House Media, the new show draws inspiration loosely from the age-old tale of Krishna and Kansa, and talks about the blind beliefs in the name of ultimate power.
Narrating a tale about a child and a god-woman, the series explores how people’s belief systems are taken advantage of.
Commenting on the new show, Colors programming head Manisha Sharma says, “Religious prejudice in the name of God and faith has created a void in our country’s growth. With ‘Devanshi’, Colors mirrors this hard-hitting reality to present a novel and unexplored concept that puts the spotlight on fraudulent practices conducted in the name of devotion. Narrating a tale about a child and a god-woman, the show is in line with our endeavour to deliver well-meaning content while allowing us to experiment with our programming line-up. As Devanshi’s journey of good vs evil takes over the 7 pm slot on Colors, ‘Thapki…Pyaar Ki’ will continue to engage viewers at a brand-new timeslot of 6:30 pm.”
Speaking about the concept, producer Sonali Jaffer of Full House Media says, “We have seen that the parameter of faith has changed a lot these days. And with the increasing stress, people not only believe in God but has also started believing in these spiritual people. So we wanted to highlight how these people are exploiting them. Having said that, some gurus are really good, but there are some who are giving them a bad name.”
The story focuses on a 7-year-old girl whose life changes when she’s accidentally dropped into a god-woman’s ‘hundi’ as an infant, and faces the brunt of being a blessed child. ‘Devanshi’ will focus on the larger thought of good versus evil, in this case defeating the evil god-woman, Mata Kusum Sundari.
The show features Kashvi Kothari as the seven-year-old girl, Karuna Pandey as Mata Kusum Sundari, Ankita Sharma as Sarla (Devanshi’s step mother), Pankaj Vatia as Omi (Devanshi’s step father) and Aamir Dalvi as Mohan (Kusum Sundari’s aide).
To promote the show, the channel has devised an extensive integrated marketing campaign across platforms including print, cable and DTH, radio, news channels, OOH, cinema, etc. The channel has also planned on-ground activations aligned with the Colors Golden Petal Club across multiple markets.
