‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’ to run havoc on Nick beginning January 2015
After having ruled the kids’ genre for well over 14 weeks – beginning its reign as the numero uno channel in week 33 of the TAM TV ratings – Nick has more reasons to celebrate as it has once again acquired the broadcast rights for the popular animated show ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’.
It was back in 2012 that Cartoon Network had acquired the mega-hit animated comedy series; and it partnered with Xilam, a French animation studio, to co-produce ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’ fourth season. Prior to that Viacom18′s Nickelodeon was streaming the series in India since 2009.
With ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’ being up for grabs in the market for acquisition, Nick jumped at the opportunity to add this internationally popular show to its formidable line-up of successful shows.
Through this show, the channel is looking at increasing the portfolio of both, international and local shows that entertain and captivate kids and would fit the channel’s brand ideology as well.
Nickelodeon already has successful shows such as ‘Pakdam Pakdai’, ‘Motu Patlu’ and ‘Dinosaur King’. The channel had recently launched a new season of ‘Keymon Ache’.
Sonic too launched new episodes of ‘Supa Strikas’. A new series, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, premiered on both Nickelodeon and Sonic.
Though there are no significant changes in the overall content strategy, players seem to be bullish on show launches, bringing in a slew of both home grown and acquired content in order to resonate with their target audience.
According to sources, Nick will be rolling out a strong communication on both the on-ground and the digital front; where there will be on-ground school contact programmes that will be undertaken across major cities in the country.
There is also a focused content plan for Facebook to create buzz for the show, with possibilities of games based on the show as well.
