Playtag Media Services, a Mumbai-based start-
up floated by Sharon Misra and Mahesh Gulati, is planning to launch an internet-based salon-exclusive television channel in March.

Christened Beautv, the channel will be available only in
salons across India. Targeted at salon-going customers,
the consumer-centric channel will have lifestyle-related
content.

The channel is currently in test mode and will be officially Launched on 1 March. Beautv channel will be available to salons through a set- top box (STB), which will stream the content via the internet.

The company, which also provides activation services to
salons, plans to take the channel to 16,000 salons across India. The salons will get a customised channel free of cost to engage their customers, while Playtag will have access to their customers.

The company has ambitions to make Beautv a satellite channel. “We plan to make it a satellite channel in the second year. Once consumers know that they can watch something like this in a salon, there is going to be a demand for it to move on a TV set and that’s something that many people would want to watch at home as well,” Misra averred.

Beautv will not be a 24-hour channel since salons are
generally open only for 10–12 hours a day. The channel
will have 4–5 hours of content that will be repeated
throughout the day.
