Seeking Help Recording facility

Apologies for my old age and ignorance.

DishTV has recording facility of 25/- pm OR 169/- pa. Can you please let me know how does recording work ? Do I need a USB ? Tried searching for recording in the Forum and all posts that were related to recording becoming paid after a date came up on results and hence creating a new thread.
