Looks like most of Sony pictures English movie are given to Viacon18 ( angry birds , 2012 , karate kid , ghost rider ..Etc...)
To win network 18 hearts . This was preplanned

Turner will never buy Zee, they tried way back to expand in GEC, Movie, Bollywood space but failed ... Remember all those NDTV Imagine, Imagine Showbiz and NDTV Lumiere?

What i wish is Turner or other players to start classic hollywood and foreign cinema chs in India. This segment needs to build upon now on TV as OTT catches up

Disney-star merger is perfect....they completes each other.....but upcoming sony/network18 merger makes no sense to me both are big in india and after merger its only gonna create mess for each other (and in end both gonna fail badly like dish-d2h) but turner-zeel option looks very promising btw why sony wants to aquire major broadcasters businness in india(zeel/network18) where they are already big in india

Sony always wanted to expand in regional space. Having more channels helps their sports business too.

Just acquiring a big network is not enough, one needs to have lot of other expertise to manage and run it well. Turner is not going to pump in so much money when they know it is tough hill to climb. Disney has much larger footprint and wanted to scale up to face future challenges hence bought Fox/Star. Turner is not even been able to yield good results for its kids or english channels so trying hands in entirely new area is extremely risky.

Above all Zee wil not sell business until there is some major financial stress, look at how they r still holding on despite promoters in debt trouble, this company hold very special place for them and not just a usual business. At most Turner and Zee can form a merger which will benefit both, later on joint investments can be worked out if needed

Exactly. AT&T does not have to acquire Zee the way Sony is merging with Viacom18/Reliance (India) and Viacom/CBS (US). Instead they can simply form a partnership or alliance.

Alliance means one can work independently but ready to collaborate on certain jointly decided fronts. There is difference between merger and acquisition. Viacom and CBS operate independently in respective space but have common strategic points where they r seen together

Yeah, effect alliance too. Zee will definitely create bad PR for AT&T in America.

After Majority shares sold to financial co.s by Promoters, Zee had a bad reputation and confusing about future plans.
