He further explained that the strategy for India is similar to the international streaming strategy. “We have a very successful leading free streaming service in Voot. Then we have a premium paid premium service called Voot Select, which has got off to a significant start,” he said. “The core business is very strong, the move into streaming presents a huge opportunity and is off to a successful start, and not the least because of our partnership with Reliance and their ownership of Jio which is an incredible driver of streaming. “

Only in there he talks about Streaming IN India! Where exactly he said they are launching Paramount+ or International streamer. Clearly he is saying Voot is working in both ways like Pluto TV and CBS All Access.

Maa, Asianet weren't big networks? Forget that Disney is now Star's parent company. Which made the big acquisition in entertainment industry's history. Even in India they acquired UTV in 2012.
Clearly Maa & Asianet were different scenarios. But I agree if they want they can buy. No one will want to invest big in linear networks.
Sony-Viacom18 combine might acquire Zee network in future.
No it won't be the case! CCI will definitely block horizontal mergers if they feel they might be creating monopolies over business or atleast will ask to divest some of the operations.

Yes, they were big networks but confined in a small space. And the case with Zee is entirely different. Star want to enter in Malayalam and Kannada market so bought Asianet Communications, similarly acquired Maa. Is that the case of Zee Network? Disney Star has the money power to buy them. But why should they buy it? It simply results in the replication of channels and multiplication of employees in each and every field. More channels powerful network concept became outdated. Networks now looking for reducing the number of channels and focusing more on ott. Before IPL 11, Star is very aggressive in expanding Sports channels to regional languages, but now they are retarding.
