It's nothing confusing, sony pictures sold most of it tv channel business in recent time. Animax sold worldwide by Sony parent. Selling animax was a decision taken by sony higher ups, not sony pictures india. As sony has a channel in India, they decided to show some anime there, crunchyroll is an ott phatform, nothing to do with tv

They sold animax because they were not interested in tv channel. That time sony used to buy rights from other producers. But after acquring funimition & crunchyroll sony is now itself producing anime & also licensing to other otts
