IMO they launch these regional channels only to get more subscriber revenue. If there is Indian cricket match, then all of them will broadcast the same program at same time anyway. It can be done via multiple audio feeds easily. Unless it is something like PL, all other sports programs can be broadcasted easily with 2-4 pairs of channels.
Subscription revenue is peanuts for them. Hence, they don't profit much from events like football with only 1 ad breaks. It's the ad revenue that brings the money. Just like Dino bro said they have regional feeds to attract regional advertisers. Having audio feeds doesn't bring much different in viewership in Sports. Those who are interested in the event will watch it irrespective of the language. It increases production cost instead.
