Historic Newzealand vs England test just ended but no indian broadcaster grab rights and show on tv apart from streaming platform prime video
Indian Broadcaser just like dead 3 days test
Here for a series like India vs Australia Star Sports is not getting much advertisers so how do u expect sports broadcasters to invest in buying rights of more cricket properties and face further losses? Already they buying rights so many other sports properties at extremely high cost when returns for the same r minimal. Just look at what price EPL, UEFA, Tennis Grand Slam, F1, cricket rights of other countries or other such rights r bought by Sports Broadcasters despite these hardly generating any ad revenue.
A member was saying that whatever price sports broadcasters decide at for buying rights of different sports properties , sports properties owner or board agree to the same.....this is not at all true. Sports Broadcasters have to shell out lots of money and thru negotiations may be they r able to get minute decrease in it but that is it, it is not like whatever price sports broadcasters is fine with the concerned owner/board of sporting event will agree to it.
It is tough to maintain an equilibrium while operating in the sports broadcast genre in India. There is very heavy expenditure required but recovering such investment is very tough. We r still getting lots of access to different sports on linear as well as OTT platforms at extremely low pricing...for India Cricket u can say tha even at low ARPU due to high volumes (number of people subscribing /watch) good returns can be achieved even though again bcoz of rights being bought at very high price it takes lot of time to recover the same and earn profits but for other sports volume factor is very small thus despite buying rights at high price there is extreme difficulty in earning revenue thru ads...subscription revenue too r small and further slide as many people opt to unsubscribe sports channels at such point of time. This is the reason why Star Sports or other broadcasters try to bundle sports channels across basic and other bouquets they offer
