Should Sports Networks have Regional Channels?

IPL itself in decline. Leave alone IPL inspired leagues. No matter how viable are these new leagues. For cricket fans these are still a treat to watch.
 
so after having so many HD channels Star decided not to telecast WI VS SA test on them and show it on SS first SD channel...whats the use of having so many HD channels and why would a subscriber pay for SS channels..... its better they shut down these channels

Very Simple tomorrow onwards Star Sports 1/ 1 Hindi and regional sports channels will be airing India Vs Australia Test Match. Star Sports Select 1 airs football or fight sports events hence it is rightly avoiding airing cricket unless necessary, if it airs then people complain that Star Sports even using these channels for Cricket. Star Sports Select 1 also airs Football Chat shows and even documentaries, interview shows about non cricket sports. Similarly Star Sports Select 2 is primarily dedicated to non cricket sporting action and right now also airing live telecast FIH Hockey Tournament in afternoon and evening hours hence as such cannot air SA vs WI, we should infact appluad Star Sports that they r giving Hockey preference over Cricket on HD channels.

Star Sports 2 and 3 air ISL which will again overlap partially with timings of SA vs WI Test Match, if they air it only for the time it is free then people complain that oh look Star Sports airs on multiple channels and shifts it from one to another so that people have to subscribe to all their channels.

Above all since they have entered into syndication agreement with Fancode hence may be it would include clause of not airing SA vs WI live on Star Sports HD channels. Reason is the HD subscribers form large part of the subscriber base who watch content on OTT owing to more purchasing power/money they have so airing the match on HD channels would in a way have adverse impact on those wanting to watch the match on Fancode. So as part of mutual understanding and co-operation decision may have been taken to air the match on just Star Sports First which is a SD channel.

On a brighter side by opting for Star Sports First at Just Re. 1 one is able to watch SA vs WI so it is also a great thing for viewers. Telecast is in 16:9 aspect ratio so viewing experience is still extremely good even though in SD format

Read the whole thing. But I think SSS 1 HD and SSS 2 HD can air live events when they don't have any other event to air.
 
Thank god Star Sports airing match atleast in SD, last time Sony who blackouts so many international matches played by Australia.
