I think Star has set long term goals while investing in Indian Hockey.
On one hand they may indirectly hold Hockey ownership stake & other hand they would be sole broadcaster for Hockey matches. Thus they would be in position to dominate Indian Hockey turf for years & able to extract money out of it.
The same thing happened with Indian Cricket where Star has most rights & able to dominate sports business. It seems Star is not interested in investing Indian matches abroad as they have studied the pattern of Indians win abroad. Winning matches is very imp from business/profit point of view. I think same will replicate in case of Hockey.
