MUMBAI: Armed with a strong daily fiction line-up, Star Plus is now re-building its weak Sunday prime time with a host of new shows. “We are in the process of locking shows for Sunday. We are working on a lot of unique concepts,” said Star Plus SVP marketing and content strategy Nikhil Madhok.
Two new shows are in the offing, according to a source. First is Endemol’s ‘Hospital’, an adaptation of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. Next to come is a thriller series ‘Missing’, which is an adaptation of the Spanish telenovela ‘Donde Esta Elisa’. The story, revolving around the missing children of a family, is inspired by real life incidents.
While these shows will set the tone for the early primetime slot on Sunday, ‘Mad in India’ will be replaced by the singing reality show ‘Raw Star’ with rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. The talent hunt show’s USP will be that participants will present original compositions rather than Bollywood songs. The show will go on air by July.
As reported earlier, the channel is working on two hourly fiction shows to fill up the Sunday primetime slot. The fiction series will be finite in nature with 13–26 episodes. One of the shows is ‘Airlines’, which is produced by Miditech Productions. Star Plus is also gearing up to launch its next mega budget show after ‘Mahabharat’. Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Everest’ will soon hit the screens.
About a little girl and her aims in life, the show is currently being shot in the Himalayas. With all the new shows slated for release in June-July, Star Plus is filling up the gap by showcasing movies and award properties like IIFA and Star Parivaar.
While work is on to restructure a strong Sunday programming band again, there are also a few changes brewing on the fiction side. Star Plus’ early primetime show ‘Ek Ghar Banaunga’ is slated to go off-air by June due to a lacklustre performance.
