How many sports channels they need? They have 15 sports channels and 2 more to come. Yet India still misses out important sporting events.

they will keep launching regional sports channels till indian viewers get fooled by them....no broadcast of 2nd match in HD and they keep launching regional sports channels....no proper telecast of other sporting events but they will launch regionsl sports channel why coz they get advertisements,,,shame on STAR

They occupy all regional languages of India in sports! OMG! 🙏 And it's good news they relay the local football matches of Kerala, we hope 👍
Bengalis love football. Couldn't they bother to acquire Copa rights just for SS 1 Bangla atleast? Copa matches takes place at early in the morning. Meanwhile World Cup matches takes place during daytime. Other than cricket Star won't push any other sports.

All about money bro. What they invest and returns is what determines acquisition of rights. Right now Star is focused 70% on cricket and using some of profit to build ISL, Pro Kabaddi etc. Football audience is too small and getting rights of big properties is not good economics. This is why they tried to increase subscription by putting all these non cricket sports on HD channels but reverted later as it flopped. Now too they have renewed Premier League rights with hope of getting premium ad rates, getting traction of digital platform and not letting competitor build a rich sports portfolio. Also this time there has been 35% reduction in price of rights for Premier League in Indian Subcontinent

Anyways till people r watching cricket (which i find boring after some extent), Star will shell out millions of dollars for IPL, BCCI or ICC Cricket events and look to earn more with telecasting it & airing more repeats of these things

They can make more money from live football matches than cricket highlights. But they won't. I seriously think they are overpaying for cricket rights now.

Overpaying for cricket - yes, earn more from football - No at the moment.
