Now try justifying the $6 billions worth rights.

by end of this ipl cycle both broadcaster jio and Star will realize it was not worth it..... not only them but BCCI as well Virat and rohit will be retiring and i don't see anyone coming near to them in near future from indian team last so called superstars of indian cricket.... this is last of dhonis ipl... writing in on the wall for cricket as game arleast in India

here nobody can't beat Jio Cinema huge investment in Marketing and social media network influence, overall it's their strategy to win against broadcaster. even other broadcasters like Star, Sony and Zee failed match whatever Reliance/Jio's agencies offers Sponsored News/Articles.
So we are gonna just ignore those article for sports pundits and journalist who are suddenly concerned about data prices all of a sudden and internet usage after Hotstar lost the rights after 5 years?

Now they are complaining about Asli and Nakli 4K and frame rates after watching grainy IPL on Hotstar. On top of that #IPLonStar aren't trended by genuine people watching IPL. It's promotional and done by influencers.

Also internet personalities like Tanmay Bhatt who Star hired to blabber IPL looks good on TV every other 5 minutes on his show. This guy literally got removed from an ad a month back for hurting religious sentiments and worse making fun about violence on children. This happened just 2 months ago. What kind of principle and family viewing is Star promoting with him?

I agree with you. IPL had reached it peak at 2016. It is still flourishing now because of lucrative tv and streaming deal after that. Sony would've fought harder if there was any scope in growth. Last streamer couldn't even profit to retain the rights.

TV rights holder might face 50%loss and Digital rights holder might incur 25% loss for this season.

Digital can afford to lose. They are building a new platform where they will earn in long run. Star can't afford to lose otherwise their employees will me made to watch sports in Hindi and English.

fact is ipl has lost its charm, cricket as a game has lost its charm... so whose numbers are high really doesn't matter..... lack of superstars in cricket as in 90s or even till 2010s attracted many viewers... ICC should be blamed for not pushing the game as they should be doing... lack of trigular series. high number of game in a year. day in day out so many useless series. major players missing the game has led to many shy away from this sport. only w/c has value in cricket

Also people got so many buisness to spend now. Earlier it was TV and Movies only. When IPL starts, stick with the same untill the end. Now watch IPL for some time, go to Facebook, etc etc.. Cricket lost its charm + Star removed entertainment elements of IPL.
I think even if Sony comeback as broadcaster, they also can't revive the old days.
Star bought the global rights for 17k crores previously and it not yielded well for them. Then I wonder why they invested such a huge amount for TV only..? Jio's case can be neglected as they are a new comer.

The viewership continued growth after 2016 and reached highest at 2019. Even 2017 recorded never before growth compared to 2016. Technically 2016 is not a peak season. And the demand for acquiring rights is primarily based on viewership than anything emotional.
Sony fought their maximum and lost to Star. That's the case. Whether Sony see scope or not it would not have been changed. Because Star is enthusiastic and Sony is shilly shallied. Also the TV alone bid of Sony was higher than Star. That means Sony too approached IPL hopefully.

@Shiv Verma bro. When your avatar had IPL. It use to be a family entertainer. Now it's just a game of cricket or worse a game for fantasy cricket fans.
I agree with you. There are many reasons that make IPL just a basic tournament and not a family entertainer, the first 12 years of IPL were great, everything has changed since then.
