Just compare DD channels with BBC channels. You will find a lot and lot of difference between quality of programs. DD channels were necessary when there was no or very little of private channels. Instead of spending crores of rupees on DD and prasar bharti babu's, govt can use these money on other social schemes.
As far as DD bharti is concern , if prasar bharti is so desperate to have it on private DTH platforms why don't they first improved its quality and make it more like a infotainment channel like NGC or Discovery. Because India is not only about classical music and dance, it has much more to show.

I agree. Why not take a cue from Epic channel? That's an excellent channel for portraying India's heritage in my opinion. Combine that with Travel XP type shows, add some cultural / classical music and dance programmes and you have a wonderful showcase for India.

If DD wants DTH to carry their channels, spruce them up with a professional look and quality look and compete with private channels directly. No one can deny the respect the BBC enjoys in the UK and worldwide. DD can learn a lot from BBC.
