TDSAT adjourns proceedings in Star vs TCCL case following Madras HC order.
The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has adjourned the proceedings in the case between Thamizhaga Cable TV Communication Ltd (TCCL) and Star India sine die. Earlier, the proceedings in the case were stayed by Madras High Court. Arasu Cable TV Corporation counsel Meha Aggarwal produced a copy of the order dated 28 August passed by a single Judge of the Madras High Court, which stayed further proceedings in the case before the tribunal. In view of the order passed by Madras High Court, the proceedings in the present petition are adjourned sine die with liberty to the parties to bring to the notice of the tribunal any further development in the matter, TDSAT said in an order. TCCL had moved TDSAT on 10 November 2014 demanding parity from broadcaster Star India in line with Arasu Cable TV Corporation. The MSO had contended that it is paying Star based on reference interconnect offer (RIO) rate while state-run MSO Arasu Cable TV Corporation is virtually getting signals free of cost in analogue as well as digital, a charge denied by Star. Arasu does not have digital addressable system (DAS) licence to operate in Chennai metropolitan area. It is providing analogue signals in Chennai under an interim order passed by Madras High Court. Subsequently, in an order passed on 13 February, the tribunal directed the impleadment of Arasu Cable TV Corporation represented by its General Manager as respondent no 2.
