CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) will be completing the setting up of Common Service Centres in all taluks by February this year.

Already, Common Service Centres have been functioning 22 taluks - 10 in Chennai district and 12 in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts since December 20 last.

So far, as many as 1,08,776 people have been benefitted by these service centres. The Common Service Centres would be set up in the remaining of the 232 taluks by the end of February.

These points and the services offered were showcased in a TACTV float that was part of the Republic Day celebrations on Marina on Monday.

It was Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation’s debut float.

Providing e-services to the public near their residences is the objective of the Common Service Centres. Community certificate, various schemes of the State government for the welfare of the girl child, women and widows are among the services provided through these centres.

The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation was revived by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2011. As of now, the TACTV has 70.52 lakh subscribers and is providing cable TV services at a nominal cost of `70 per month.

Arasu can make above developments except starting digital services.:wall

For the past two months, LCOs threatening to opt out of Arasu cable & form a new MSO like TCCL..But they are also dragging their plans since its costlier to erect DAS set-up in whole TN with their own investments..

So everything & fate of TN cable industry is in the hands of BJP Govt alone..:angry

Looks like the cable tv blackout was successful across TN, but Arasu wont and also cant justify the hike to Rs 150 to people unless they offer CAS/DAS with all tamil, sports and eng channels via STB.

Also LCO's say that from May 2015 they will take control of MSO operations across the state.

So the only option left to Arasu seems to be to create its own operators and implement its plans.

Rs. 150 outside chennai is justify as they are getting all Free / Pay channels. But it can't be justify in chennai metro. Even Rs. 100-120 itself too much, as we are getting only free to air channels.

I don't think LCO will take control of MSO and neglecting Arasu.

Even for outside chennai Rs 150 cant be justified as,
1: The MSO Arasu is providing these channels and not the LCO.
2: The MSO Arasu is paying for these channels and not the LCO.
3: How can the LCO justify that the MSO that pays for these channels get just Rs 20 while the LCO who takes care of the service wants over 85% of revenue. Does other MSO offer these LCO's the same share?
4: Similar to electric bill people can be asked to pay their monthly subscription via ration shops which will further reduce the need for the LCO and will limit the LCO within technical jobs.
5: Even if the MSO gives 500+ channels, analogue cant take more than 70 channels with good quality in most cases.
6: If DAS is implemented then its not the LCO but the MSO who has to procure the STB and offer the people.
5: If Rs 150 is implements then people have better alternatives via DTH.

Even outside chennai its completely the MSO that pays for these pay channels and its the same MSO that deserves additional funding more than the LCO.

LCO's want to increase the subscription rate to Rs 150 but give the same Rs 20 to MSO, how can this be fair?

Yes, collecting Rs 100-120 in chennai for these few FTA channels is way too costly.
