Weird Phone Call from a Stranger about Tata Sky

Hi Guys,

I got a weird phone call from a stranger today. He said that he works at a university which has more than 50 boxes and was facing a problem that package of some of his boxes had been changed or something. He claimed that he called TS to complain and that they told him that I was calling them up from my mobile to make those changes.

I don't know how this is possible and I was shocked that TS might have given my number to someone. I told him that I will complain to TS.

I was also wondering if this is a scam of some sort. He was asking for my subscriber ID but I never gave it to him.

I called TS Helpline and they asked me to write an email so I have sent an email to [email protected]. I am copy-pasting the mail below but let me know if you guys have any idea about it. All this is so weird:

Hi,

I am a Tata Sky customer and my subscriber ID is xxxx.

I got a strange call from the number +91 xxx on my mobile number today. The person on the line said that he was calling from some university in Delhi and that they have 50+ Tata Sky connections. He said that someone had been calling Tata Sky and changing packs on his connections and when he contacted Tata Sky, he was given my name and mobile and that he was told that I had been calling Tata Sky for changing packages on his boxes.

Obviously, as I only have one TS box, I only make changes to that box and no other box.

So I would like to clarify with you:

1) Did Tata Sky give my name and mobile number to someone?
2) Did Tata Sky tell anyone that I had been making changes to packages on someone else's boxes?

I would like a quick reply on this matter as it is concerns my privacy.

That's what I suspected. But what do they gain from this? And how do they get the numbers?
 
Then it may be a prank because it is not possible that your number is given by tata sky customer care. And if the caller is saying that he is calling from so me university which have 50+ connection then to best of my knowledge it is not possible to get your pack change by just making a call. To change the pack the connection holder has to send the request through email or submit the request at local tata sky office, as 50+ connection on single account/ in one name/ on same address don't fall in ordinary or individual account.
 
Did you make Any changes in your packages recently ?


My theory is that You told CC to change your pack and CC by Mistakenly changed his pack because yours and his Sub ID might be almost similar with difference of just 1 digit.

or as others said he is a fraud.

Well, I changed my pack last week to Mega HD. But I doubt that the CC would have changed both my pack and someone else's pack. And if they did, they should not give my name and number to some random person.
 
Well a weird thing also happened with me.

In the past 1 week, it happned with me twice.

Some1 logged into my account Using either my Sub id or my Cell Number and requested for a Password Reset. I received the Verification Code on my Registered Mobile Number
