In 2025, what does the community think of the view that all channel offerings should be in HD (at least 720p) and there is no need of HD branding.
For this to happen, both broadcasters and distributors have to be in sync. I was wondering when was the last time a tv set was sold in India which had lesser than 720p. Right now, I would expect that 90% tv sets in India would be 720p and above.

Is it just about TV sets, how many of the STB's subscribed in India are 720p or more? Even with HD boxes, how many do subscribe to HD packages?

HD channels are offered by Broadcasters as some premium thing by charging extra, while it's high time we should have even ditched HD and upgraded to 4K for flagship channels.
Nevertheless, TRAI & MIB should take efforts for any mandatory change.

HD Channels quality is very low. 1080p does not run 720p You may have seen in YouTube 1080p When we do, youTube video quality will be better than TV quality. When the first HD channel was turned on, his quality was very good at that time, when the DTH company's set top box was standard. That means good quality At present, DTH company transporter If the channels run Compressed by a transporter, if 10 channels run in a transporter, 15 channels are run and the channel's quality poor

With the NTR 3.0 update i think Trai has done away with the HD carraige feed to be twice of SD feed etc. And nowadays, at least the channels that i see are priced same for both SD and HD.
With pricing out of the equation, I think if the industry does not move forward and upgrade the quality ultimately the regulator has to move in. Though DTH or cable is not growing anymore, it is still a large paying customer base of 12 to 13 crore households.

that is a very important point. the percentage of STB which are SD must be very high.
On your other point, as HD and SD channel costing are same nowadays, the industry has to make HD standard. Maybe since they do not have any incentive, the regulator has to move this forward.

I think you have some confusion. All channels are already being offered in 720p+.
SD Channels: 720p
HD Channels: 1080i/1080p

While on the topic of removing HD branding, it is not possible. SD channels are far ahead in terms of viewership compared to their HD versions. Just check BARC TRP. Price of SD channels are also less compared with HD variants with same content.

Quality no where near the money they are charging for DTH services. Price is not only the reason people are moving to IPTV and OTTs.
It will surely take time but DTH will be a dead thing for sure looking at the current progess.
