Why some star network channels not available in base packages of dth and star value packs?
These are basic channels like fox life, star gold select, disney international

Don't know about others. But Disney International HD is excluded because they know most people unlike their employees don't have free time to go and get a single channel. They buy a select packaged offered to them by their operators. So it would be easier to convince Disney people to shutdown a Disney branded channel by stating low ratings. It's easier for Star people to shutdown their legacy channels like Star World and Channel V. But difficult to do same with something with a Disney brand.

These are due to TRAI rules too where higher priced channels can be put as an alcarte by the broadcasters specifically more than 19 Rs or so. This also depends upon the deal between broadcasters and DPO where they can be available on higher packages or not part of any package.

Disney international channel available at 14 rupees.
So they can easily include in base packages.
No problem with TRAI rules.
And star gold select and fox life has very less price still added in premium packages.

So that is 14 rupees per subscriber ,when you take into account million /lakhs of subscribers that becomes a huge amount , so I said its purely between DPO and broadcasters whether they had to include or not and yes more than 19 Rs you have to keep it alcarte only. Thats the reasons many channels are not present on the platform you leave packages. A popular channel like MTV Beats HD costing hardly 1 Rs is still not available on Airtel Digital TV . & explor HD a movies channel not present on Dishtv etc. So the reason is money/profit/business for both and that decides the outcome.
