Simple. The reason is to lure people by showing it free for some weeks so that viewers get addicted to its serials and programmes.
And then turn it to encrypted mode that that people shell out money to watch it. :lol

Its available for platinum pack viewers.... i guess :huh, and all dish tru hd viewers, since their base pack is platinum...

Bapun, I am getting it as "Scrambled Channel" only on FTA Receiver. I am getting it on Dishtv as a pay channel.
I am not a FTA User. I have Dishtv and Hathway Digital Cable too.
