Yes zee is causing problem on its own.
Sony pictures wants to expand its entertainment business. For last few years sony acquired small production houses like industrial media, silvergate media, bad wolf, crunchyroll. All these have valuable ip. They recently acquired vfx company Pixomondo which did vfx for House of the Dragon. In India, they have seen opportunity, that's why they are ready to spend 1.6 billion dollar on zee. Without this merger, sony needs to launch channels in South (which is already a crowded market) on their own. Although sony got success with sony liv in south, but tv is a different game.

Instead of merger with Zee. Sony should have bought Raj network channels and rebrand it as Sony Regional channels down south!

Those Raj useless channels are available on almost every DTH & Cable TV! Right from the word go, Sony could take advantage with proper program offerings in terms of reach.

Even they could buy ETV channel..they only telecast old movies..by that Sony could get library of old movies and also buy new ones with their money

Better to launch new channels directly instead of buying Raj which had lost amplitude. Star played smart by picking the pearls from South (Vijay, Maa, Asianet & Suvarna).
