Cricket will remain the catalyst because at the end of this year, the IPL rights will come up for sale again. Those in the know say “SPN India has managed to convince its board in the US that they would need to loosen purse strings to buy cricket rights in India if Sony were to take on rivals when bidding takes place for IPL rights.

Sony realizes that it lost traction in terms of engagement with consumers when it lost all cricket rights in India five years ago”.

Monopoly on the way!
It's not good at all, Sony is only giving one sports channel in its basic entertainment pack.

You need to watch "sports" on sports channels that comes bundled with Star's basic packs. And watch the content offered on one channel Sony Ten 3 that comes with Sony's pack. Than you will see the difference.

Sony doesn't even forces sports upon you. They even got several low cost packs which comes with just entertainment, movies and kids channels.

Whatever this will create monopoly, competition will not be there like when Star Sports had all broadcasting rights they had all broadcasting rights which created monopoly and gets all freedom to price pack on whatever rate they want. They even added useless channels in packs.

Please read what you wrote. You said. There won't be any monopoly when one broadcaster had everything. How does it make sense?
