In exciting news for cricket fans, Disney Star has announced that it will be broadcasting live IPL 2023 matches for free on its FTA channel, Star Utsav Movies. The announcement comes as Star Sports Network prepares to officially broadcast the IPL 2023 in India. IPL is one of the most popular cricket tournaments in the world, attracting top international players to compete for the tournament title.
Star Sports Network is the official broadcaster of IPL 2023 in India and will air the matches on its premium sports channel in multiple audio feeds with HD options. Meanwhile, on the Star Utsav Movies channel, 12 matches will most likely be available with Hindi commentary in SD quality.Â
The digital rights of IPL 2023 are with Reliance-backed Viacom18, which is also expected to make digital live streaming of the matches free for everyone. This will provide fans with an additional option to view the matches online.
This move is significant as Disney Star’s decision to offer the matches free of charge on its FTA channel will provide an opportunity for cricket fans who cannot afford or do not have access to premium sports channels to watch the IPL 2023 matches live. The announcement will delight cricket fans across India who eagerly anticipate the tournament each year.
The IPL 2023 is scheduled to start on March 31 and the last match is set to be played on May 21. A total of 70 matches are planned to be played between 10 teams over the course of 52 days. The first match of the tournament will be played between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings on Friday, March 31, at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
It is worth noting that Star had acquired TV broadcast rights for IPL 2023-27 in the Indian subcontinent for Rs 23,575 crore for 410 matches over a period of 5 years, while Viacom18 bagged digital rights for Rs 20,500 crore. With this investment, the broadcasters will look to provide the best possible coverage of the tournament to cricket fans in India.
