MIB cancels ‘P7 Gujarati’ and ‘Sneha TV’ satellite TV license

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on 8th March 2021 cancelled two more satellite TV channel licenses bringing down the permitted satellite TV channels count to 901. The Ministry simulatenously increased the number of cancelled TV channels to 337 with the cancellation of two satellite TV licenses.

MIB has cancelled the satellite TV licenses held by Janvani Broadcasting Corporation Limited namely ‘P7 Gujarati’ and ‘Sneha TV’. The company was earlier named Pearls Broadcasting Corporation Private Limited which held the two licenses.

MIB had granted both the satellite TV licenses on two different occasions to the company. ‘P7 Gujarati’ license was granted to Janvani Broadcasting on 30th December 2010 in the ‘NON-NEWS’ category to operate in Gujarati, English, and all other Indian scheduled languages with permission for uplinking and downlinking.

‘Sneha TV’ license was granted to the company on 12th October 2006 in the ‘NEWS’ category to operate in Punjabi, English, and other Indian languages. The license was initially named ‘PBC TV’ before being renamed to ‘P7 News’ and then subsequently ‘Sneha TV’.

MIB cancelled both the satellite TV licenses on 8th March 2021 terming the reason for cancellation as ‘Not Required’.
