The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on Friday extended the time for submission of comments on the draft Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020.

The Ministry in its notification to the stakeholders notified the extension of the deadline for soliciting suggestions/comments from the general public. The extension has done after the Ministry received requests from various quarters with reference to the Ministry’s public notice dated 15th January.

The timeline for submission of comments has been extended for the second time. The initial deadline for submission was 17th February. The Ministry has now extended the time up to 13th April 2020.

The I&B Ministry’s draft Cable TV amendment bill looks to increase the monetary penalty amount and insertion of a subsection on penalties for violation of the Programme Code and the Advertisement Code.

The bill states that the Center could also specify the names of Doordarshan channels operated by or on the behalf of Parliament, to be mandatorily carried by the cable operators in their cable service.
