Radio Consumption second to TV with 51 mn due to COVID-19: AZ Research

The listenership of Radio has grown significantly during the lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic with AZ Research revealing that the radio consumption had a reach of 51 mn second only to TV with 56 mn.

According to a Radio City Investor Presentation which carried the data source from AZ Research, regular radio listeners have increased from 48 million to 51 million during the COVID-19 lockdown time. Radio had a reach of 51 million next to TV at 56 million.

The average daily duration has increased from 2 hours 07 minutes to 2 hours 36 minutes, almost seeing an increase of 30 minutes in radio listening.

The total daily duration has increased from 102 million man hours to 131 million man hours. The radio listenership has grown significantly amongst SEC B, SEC C, and D/E with time spent on radio growing highest in SEC D/E at 28%.

AZ Research had an audience survey across 6 metros i.e. Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata , Pune & Hyderabad) as part of its ‘Impact on Media Consumption in Urban India’ report.
