Star Suvarna Plus revamped with new graphics package

After being left untouched for seven years, Disney Star Network’s Kannada movie channel Star Suvarna Plus finally revamped and unveiled its new graphics on 28th October 2023, along with a new tagline during the channel premiere of the movie Kantara. The new graphics are also a combination of purple and yellow colours with a different design. Also, the currently airing movies’ name is displayed under the logo. The channel has a slight change in its movie telecasting pattern as well with the channel premiere of movies at 6 PM on Saturdays.

The channel has been upright as the second most-watched Kannada movie channel following Udaya Movies (Sun Networ’s Kannada movie channel). With Disney-Star launching HD variants of Vijay Super and Asianet Movies recently i.e., on 15th March 2023 (Star Maa Movies HD was launched in 2017), Star Suvarna Plus not having an HD channel can be considered as one of the drawbacks to the channel. In the Kannada television industry, Zee Picchar is the only movie channel with an HD variant. Star Suvarna Plus has still emerged as the second-most-watched movie channel in Kannada.

Initially launched as Suvarna Plus, the channel was later rebranded as Star Suvarna Plus

Launched on 14th August 2013, the channel was known as Asianet Suvarna Plus or Suvarna Plus and had a tagline ‘Mast Maja Maadi’. The channel was initially launched as a secondary Kannada GEC after Suvarna TV by Asianet Communications (before Disney-Star’s acquisition). The channel had a lineup of original serials, reality shows and also telecasted movies. Gradually, the channel was reformed into a 24-hour movie channel. Considering this, it was the second Kannada movie channel after Udaya Movies.

Disney-Star’s acquisition in the year 2016

In the year 2016, Disney-Star acquired both Suvarna TV and Suvarna Plus and both the channels were renamed as Star Suvarna and Star Suvarna Plus. Highlighting Star Suvarna Plus, along with its sister channel Star Suvarna, it also had a rebrand with a new logo and graphics containing purple and yellow colour elements. The channel continued to persist as a movie channel. From the year 2020, Star Suvarna Plus also started telecasting Kannada dubbed versions of movies belonging to different languages. The channel also completed 10 years in the television industry on 14th August 2023.

The recent revamp of Star Suvarna Plus can be considered a boost for the channel. However, a change in the channel’s logo and the launch of the HD variant could have been the upper hand along with the new graphics. With a good programming schedule, the channel has the potential to overtake Udaya Movies and emerge as the number one Kannada movie channel.
