The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is currently sitting up 6 TV channel license applications for more than a month at the end of Q1 FY 22. As per the performance statistics published by the MIB, the Ministry received a meager 4 new applications for TV channel license permission in Q1 FY 22, up from 2 new applications received in Q4 FY 21.
The Ministry has continued to receive new TV channel license applications in single digits in all quarters since Q4 FY 20. The last five quarters have only seen a cumulative 22 TV channel license applications drop in for fresh approval. Whereas the ministry in Q4 FY 20 received 26 applications for a new TV channel license.
The Ministry further stated that 21 applications were pending with other Ministries for TV channel license as of Q1 FY 22 end, down from 35 pending applications at the end of Q4 FY 21. The Ministry has also reduced the number of TV channel license applications pending for more than a month from 8 in Q4 FY 21 to 6 in Q1 FY 22.
