The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is sitting on 68 TV license applications that have been pending with the Ministry for more than a month at the end of Quarter 4, FY 19-20, according to the performance statistics provided by it.
The number of applications pending with MIB rose from 45 TV licenses at the end of Q3 FY 20 to 68 TV licenses at the end of Q4 FY 20 i.e March 31, 2020. It stood at 23 at the end of Q2 FY 20.
The number of applications pending with other ministries dropped down from 64 TV licenses in Q3 FY 20 to 55 TV licenses at the end of Q4 FY 20. It stood at 58 at the end of Q2 FY 20.
The number of new applications for permission stood at 26 at the end of Q4 FY 20. Q3 FY 20 also had 26 new applications. The number of new applications stood at 16 at the end of Q2 FY 20.
The Ministry’s permitted Satellite TV channel database, for now, remains out of date due to the coronavirus. It remains to be seen as to when the Ministry updates it once things settle down.
