Airtel Digital TV announces launch of 4K channel

Airtel Digital TV, the DTH arm of Bharti Airtel, has announced the launch of its first ultra HD (UHD/4K) channel.

TelevisionPost.com earlier reported that Airtel Digital TV, along with Tata Sky and Videocon d2h, would showcase the world TV premiere of Salman Khan-starrer blockbuster ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ in 4K.

Airtel Digital TV’s 4K channel (channel #400/158) will be available exclusively to users of the Samsung Smart Direct TV, an integrated digital TV (IDTV) launched by Airtel Digital TV in partnership with Samsung.

According to Airtel, the 4K channel will be available completely free of cost to users of the Samsung Smart Direct TV for a limited period.

The company will also showcase programmes like ‘Overhalin’ (from Discovery) and movies like ‘Singh is King’, ‘Kick’, and ‘Jai Ho’ on the channel over the coming days.

Airtel Digital TV claims that the IDTV is among the many innovations by Airtel and is a technology platform that has miniaturised the set-top box (STB) into a small smart card that fits inside the television set at the back panel.

“The elegant solution offers a smart TV viewing experience with minimal signal loss and maximum audio and video clarity while also ensuring maximum power savings,” the company said.

The Samsung Smart Direct TV uses minimal wiring and a single remote solution, powered by an intuitive user guide and a built-in smart card that allows customers to enjoy TV viewing without an external STB

I think 7 HD channels or 28 SD Channels space is going to be wasted for a benefit of Samsung and just for 1000 customers....

Your right.. all this space is wasted. It would have been ok if they had 4k setup boxes.. All this space is going to be wasted on Samsung tv users (not worth) :angry
