After UTV-Disney India, yet another speculation is that Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures is facing trouble to keep up with competition and due to the fate of its past few films the production house may be heading for a shut down. Though there has been no official announcement on the same, we hear that the company hasn't been making any call on future films, besides the ones that are already under production.

Sameer Nair, group CEO of Balaji Telefilms though denied plans of a shut down in a recent interview, he did mention that the company is currently not keen on taking up any more film projects. He further maintained that their focus has always been on developing content for the television wing (Balaji is known for several shows that occupy prime time on TV) and the films, which are a high-risk business, will contribute to the company in much lesser frequency. It is being said that Balaji Motion Pictures, besides the projects that have already gone into production under the banner, hasn't decided to bring in any more films on board as of now. Sameer asserted that the company is busy with the video-on-demand service, ALT Digital, which will be launched in the next few months.

The last few films produced under the banner include Great Grand Masti, Kya Kool Hain Hum 3, Azhar along with the much controversial film Udta Punjab. While two films from the list were victims of piracy, the company has also incurred severe losses due to the low response at the box office. As of now, it has been learnt that the producers are awaiting the release of the Arjun Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor starrer Half Girlfriend which will further decide the fate of the production house - if it will continue with the film wing or will that be the end of it.
