can we record in sd?

My d2h connection was deactivated from last 4 months.
I activated my d2h last week. before recharging cc told me that there will be a software upgration on ur sd stb and after that recording features will be added. but nothing happened. now i am planning for dish+ as i have normal tv and i want only sd recorder stb.
is there any other company is giving recording facility to sd subscribers?
please give me ur valuable suggestions
