The América Móvil subsidiary Claro was granted a license to offer DTH services by the Paraguayan National Telecommunications Committee (CONATEL) at the end of March.
Now the phone company –which is the first telco in the country to break into the TV business- officially launched its nationwide service.
As reported by local newspaper 'La Nación', Claro's regional director Rogelio Viesca said that the company's goal for the next three years is to reach the same number of subscribers that its mobile phone service currently has: half a million customers. So the company will invest some 30 million dollards in this project this year.
Paraguay is one of the countries with the lowest pay TV penetration rates in the region (barely a 10%). Claro TV's Its digital service will reach every place of the country via satellite DTH -Direct-To-Home- technology, featuring a 36 channel grid at an affordable price and with no set-up costs for customers. A further premium package will include eight additional channels and three complementary packages.
