Cable television operators must collect Rs. 70 only as monthly subscription from the subscribers as stipulated by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Action would be taken against the operators if there were complaints of them collecting excess amount beyond the fixed subscription, according to Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television Corporation Limited.

After paying a visit to the relay station of the Arasu Cable Television Corporation here on Saturday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said tahsildars had been appointed at district level across Tamil Nadu to monitor whether the delivery mechanism of cable television network benefitted the residents. All cable television operators would come under one umbrella after enrolling in the Arasu Cable Television Corporation.

The State government was keenly involved in extending maximum benefits to the people in a cost effective manner, he said.

Pay channels would also be tuned in for relay through the government cable network in a phased manner. As many as 105 pay channels were available and the end users would be able to view it in the days to come. Advanced technology was being adopted to telecast quality video and audio, he added.

After inspecting the control room at the relay station, he also stepped into a residence at Bryant Nagar and enquired about the subscription collected every month. The resident said he was paying Rs. 100. Since the subscription was reduced, the number of connections had risen to 37, 000 from 20, 000 as on September 2, 2011 in Tuticorin.

A total of 560 cable television operators had registered with the Arasu Cable network so far. R. Kumar, Special Tahsildar, Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television Corporation Limited was present.

It is not easy for many cable operators to collect even this Rs.70. Last month when there was no Sun channels in Arasu cable, people were reluctant pay.
