No one want to buy overpriced MPEG-2 slot and that too TEST-520 (Last slot). Don't know why PB announcing e-auctions for one slot. They should give this slot to any MPEG-4 channel like DD Urdu.

The regulator has abolished the ceiling on NCF, increased the limit of discounts offered by DPOs, and made it mandatory to declare FTA channels

DD Freedish has started MPEG 4 increment slots due to update the system as encrypted with addressable system. As per this details till next year 2025 MPEG 2 TP may close in phase wise manner. Mean Single Auction Show more entertainment with variety of channels in various genre.

TRAI is recommending this to MIB now. But looks like soon we will see official DD Free Dish boxes. So if anyone using MPEG-2 box now and want to upgrade then wait for some time. Currently all Cable, DTH and TRAI putting pressure on MIB and Prasar Bharati and soon we will see results of it. Maybe in Next National Broadcasting Policy 2024.

79th e-auction rescheduled to 24th July 2024

The e-auction of the vacant DD Freedish MPEG-2 slots, initially scheduled for July 16, 2024, has been rescheduled to July 24, 2024, sources close to the development informed BestMediaInfo.com.
Prasar Bharati opened applications for the allotment of these slots on July 8, for the period from July 24, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
The deadline for submitting applications, originally set for July 15, has now been extended to July 23, 2024.

Best Media Info is a very reliable source but it may be wrong this time. Application Forms for MPEG-2 E-auction still not started again on official PB Website.

Don't know about other things. But one thing is clear that application submission not started again. And if this article is half right and e-auction will held on 24th July, that means some channels participated. But if some channels participated then why they waiting for MPEG-4 e-auction?
