ZEE Network UK is set to launch the first free High Definition (HD) channel in the UK, BizAsia can exclusively confirm.
According to sources close to BizAsia, ZEE Network will launch the HD version of its second entertainment channel, &TV early next month exclusively on the Sky Digital platform.
&TV HD will be the first and only free HD Asian channel in the UK. It will be simulcasting programmes from its standard service, which launched last month in the UK.
At the time of &TV’s UK press launch, management from India hinted that a HD version could be launched but no timescale at the time was given.
&TV HD will join Star Plus HD as the only other Asian HD channel in the UK. However, Star Plus HD is only available as part of a Sky subscription.
&TV’s standard service currently attracts a weekly reach of 450,000 and is expected to grow further with the launch of ‘The Voice India’.
At the time of filing this article, BizAsia was awaiting a response from ZEE Network UK.
