So today i was thinking what more new, exclusive and exciting content DTH operators can provide to subscribers and this idea cam to my mind.
At present we can see Tata Sky providing certain international channels thru internet based tv channel route. This is a nice start as operators tie up with these web based or linear chs, DTH operators get nice content for subscribers and channel gets wide reach. There is not much of extra content cost applicable for for channels as i guess cost of territory rights for such content will b quite less specially thru web mode
Now can DTH operators try similar model to introduce channels like ITV Choice, Trace Urban, Trace Sport Stars, Hallmark channel etc. in India. Yes, here channels would have bear considerably high content cost while expanding territory rights for such content but then it would still be manageable to provide channel free of cost either thru a linear service channel or internet based mode. Remember when ITV Granada was available as a proper satellite based channel then it managed to operate in India that too by paying carriage fee and licence fee to airtel and government, in above case both these things are not required as per current rules. Also if broadcaster and operator both want additional revenue then either web based live tv feed can have ads or on linear satellite tv channel mode they can go for SVOD based subscription model.
I always wonder that being a regular subscriber / viewer i always come up with such creative / innovate ideas to reinvent content offering and evolve with changing media landscape, why do broadcasters and operators do not think about it and implement it
