Active pay DTH user base down 2.17% in Q2: Trai

Over the course of a year, the active pay DTH subscriber base has declined 4.8% from 68.89 million in September 2021. Of the 65.58 million active subscribers, Tata Play had the largest share at 33.03%, followed by Bharti Telemedia at 26.49%. Dish TV was at 21.67% and Sun Direct 18.81%.

NTO 2.0 is not only the issue bro…..
DTH operators are also careless…it’s been 8days still they didn’t completed the process…
Lots of complaints are raising from customers…
I still remember at the time of NTO 1.0 Tata sky completed the process very smoothly…but now still most of the customers unable to make changes…
Even customer support team not able to make changes.

True. But similarly Airtel Digital TV provides maximum regional news channels too for various regions and instead of appreciating the same people just keep criticising Airtel Digital TV for doing so. This double standard should not be there.

Though Tata Play is facing bandwidth crunch which thereby seems to be impacting audio/video quality of many channels (as mentioned by various members in other threads), still they r adding more FTA news channels. On the other hand Airtel Digital TV still has available bandwidth for such FTA channels and even adding popular SD and HD channels but still many members keep making negative comments against it for no valid reason

Sun also provides similiar maximum regional news channel. Specially in Southern region. Sky has more UK based news channel. And Direct TV has same in US.

Since last few years as DTH operators r providing discounts if a customer opts for their new connection alongside using already installed old dish on their terrace/balcony hence for us to have a better understanding of which DTH Brands r having how much presence in a region we need to have closer look at alignment of dish rather than brand name printed on it

Now Airtel XSteam OTT pack seems to be lot more value for money when compared to Tata Play Binge OTT packs. At Rs. 149 Airtel Digital TV is offering around 17 or 18 Apps and same can acceded across all devices/ modes (web/ mobile / fire stick / android box / Smart TV ) while though Tata Play Binge Packs start from Rs. 199 offering around 15 or 16 Apps but major downside is that by subscribing to this plan one can only access content on web or mobile platform. Next plan available under Tata Play Binge OTT subscription costs Rs. 249 offering few more apps and allowing streaming across all devices / modes.

If in near future when Airtel Digital TV adds more apps on Airtel XStream OTT Platform and even increases price to Rs. 200 still it would be lot cost effective and attractive to people as same will allow content to be viewed across all devices/ modes....if Airtel too changes policy and implements similar terms & conditions as Tata Play has implemented recently then both will offer similar offerings but until then Airtel XStream OTT App / Platform holds the edge.


Also Tata Play should try to offer Lionsgate Play and Sony Liv in Super OTT Plan which costs Rs. 249 rather than Mega OTT Plan Rs. 349.
