MUMBAI: For the second consecutive week, the Hindi general entertainment genre has seen an overall slump in viewership. While Zee TV and Colors have been the biggest losers, shedding 36 million and 27 million gross television viewership in millions (GVMs) respectively, Life OK, SAB and Star Plus have managed to show small gains.

As per TAM data (sourced from subscribers) for the week ended 3 May for the Hindi-speaking markets, the Hindi GECs collectively lost 49 million GVMs. In the previous week, the channels had lost 83 million. The pecking order, however, has remained unchanged, with Star Plus sitting on top, untrammelled by the loss and gain.

Star Plus ended the week with 746 million GVMs, compared to 743 million in the previous week, with 29.9 per cent share of the genre (non-FTA GECs). The channel once again had seven shows in the top 10 fiction shows list, while the remaining three were from Zee TV (‘Jodha Akbar’ and ‘Do Dil Bandhe’) and SAB (‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’).

No fiction shows from Colors, Life OK, or Sony Entertainment Television (SET) featured in the top 10. Holding on to its second spot in the order, Zee TV ended the week with 409 million GVMs. Colors, meanwhile, closed the week with 396 million GVMs (423 million in the previous week).

Life OK gained 10 million GVMs and inched close to Colors during the week. While SET lost marginally, SAB witnessed minute gains. The Hindi GEC category (non-FTA) saw total GVMs of 2,492 million, down 49 million compared to 2539 million GVMs it had grabbed in the week-ago period.

However, the Hindi movie category, which includes MAX, the official broadcaster of the IPL, also saw a decline after two consecutive weeks of gain.

The category ended the week with 1,228 million GVMs, down 45 million compared to last week’s 1,273 million. MAX also lost 38.5 million GVMs to end the week with 457 million (from 496 million).

Top non-fiction/ weekend programmes

Colors’ non-fiction show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ continued to top the category with 7.2 million, still lower than its average. This was followed by ‘Khataron Ke Khiladi’ with 6.6 million.

Zee TV’s ‘DID Little Masters 3’ was at No. 3 with 3.8 million, while SET’s ‘CID’ was fourth with 3.0 million. Colors’ latest CSR initiative ‘Mission Sapne’ was fifth with 2.8 million.
