What r u saying bro? Star Sports 1 Hindi gets huge viewership thanks to key cricket properties it has which attracts all segments of customers...its ratings r lot more than Star Sports 1. As i said if for Hindi or Regional HD Chs get viewership for mass appealing content but here too there is a catch that this does not apply equally across various genres. Hindi / Regional GEC, Sports HD channels get max ratings followed by Movie channels present in these genres... Incase major live sports events r not on then movie channels outperform sports channels in HD segment. Basically still large part of mass subscriber base has SD boxes hence they don't subscribe to HD channels, then there is another significant chunk of mass audience which have HD boxes & opts for only key HD channels on a long term basis...for other HD chs they tend to opt on a temporary based on content, then within this mass segment also lies sizeable chunk who have HD boxes but do not subscribe to any HD channel or do take few HD channels only for few days as need be due to them being costly and unaffordable for them and lastly there is a niche audience base which subscribes mainly to Sports HD Channels or some movie channels that too based on when preffered content is being aired else prefer to watch content on SD chs or OTT platforms
As i have observed English Entertainment and Movie Channels have least takers in HD segment followed by music channels , kids and infotainment channels (in ascending order) but as the former caters to a niche audience hence still despite less ratings gets to attract advertisers if content strategy is good and this is where these channels lack at present, particularly in English GEC genre which have potential to succeed & attract both niche and emerging audience if content / pricing strategy is good... English Movie Channels too need to add more variety of content , price channels not too high and add language feed to widen reach across all audience groups (niche + mass audience base)
Hence all these factors contribute to ratings and broadcasters need to reinvent and alter strategy to get more viewers to watch/subscribers their channels across different genres.
