Recently launched infotainment channel History will air a special 'America - The Story of the US' on 21 November 2011 at 9 pm. This will take viewers into the moments when Americans harnessed technology to advance human progress, from the rigors of linking the continent by transcontinental railroad--the internet of its day--to triumphing over vertical space through the construction of steel structured buildings to putting a man on the moon. It is a look at the people, places and things that have shaped the US, and the adventure that is America 's 400-year history.

It is being positioned as the first television event in nearly 40 years to present a telling of America's history. The special is the tale of how America was invented, leading from the frontier to 21st Century cities, from the Mississippi to the moon, from colonial Jamestown to 9/11 up to present date. From the rigors of linking the continent by transcontinental roads and railways, to triumphing over vertical space with steel skyscrapers and space travel, the series examines how technology overcame the environment.

The series encompasses the metamorphosis of the vast wilderness into villages, villages into towns and towns into the sprawling metropolitan areas that are there today. A combination of reenactments, photos, CGI, models, and other elements delivers a great deal of information here, along with frequent references to Americans' pioneer spirit, devotion to hard work, and belief that if you can dream it, you can do it. Yet this isn't an especially scholarly document. America is all this with the inclusion of history as a chapter that is so intricately connected to the genesis and growth of this nation.

The special has episodes that are devoted to major conflicts like the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II; the more gradual but still significant developments that helped shape the nation; and the various elements and forces that combined to make the United States the world's dominant superpower in the 20th century and beyond.
