The fourth film in the famous Jurassic Park series, ‘Jurassic World’ has grossed Rs 100 crore at the box office in India. The Colin Trevorrow-directed adventure film saw a multi-lingual release across India and entered the Rs 100 crore club in its third week.

The film hit theatres on 11 June, and was released in 2,108 screens in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Irrfan Khan in pivotal roles.

In a statement, Universal Pictures India said, “Being the true sequel to ‘Jurassic Park’, the movie brings a sense of nostalgia for Indian audiences. Moreover, the adventurous theme of the movie can be enjoyed by all age groups together, which has helped in draw family audiences to the theatres.

First ‘Fast and Furious 7′ and now ‘Jurassic World’, the summer has shown that India is establishing itself as a big market for Hollywood content.” In the first six months of the year, only four other films have gone past the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office.

These include one Bollywood film, the Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, two Tamil films ‘I’ and ‘Kanchana 2′, and one Hollywood film ‘Fast and Furious 7’. ‘Jurassic World’ takes the tally to five films to reach the Rs 100 crore milestone this year.

‘Jurassic World’ is set on the same fictional island of Isla Nublar, where a dinosaur theme park has been in operation for ten years.

The story takes place 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park.
