first, check you have the dvr option in the menu click on record they will tell you to sms ona blue screen after sending the message you will get a call from dishtv cc they tell u bout the ddr remote @300 order it, will recieve within 7 working days (money will be deducted from your account)

How to Activate DISHTV HD PLUS Recording feature.

Register your Mobile number by sending

SMS DISHTV RMN "your VAC number"

Connect USB drive to the port, restart the Set top

Assuming you already have a HD PLUS remote with 'Record' button.

PRESS the record button.

If recording icon does not appear on right side of the screen

Call following numbers and give your vc number and explain the problem.

CALL: 1860-180-3474 (Only MTNL/BSNL lines), 60013474 (Only Non MTNL/BSNL lines) (Prefix 011 for North, 022 for west, 033 for East & 044 for South), 0120-2550000 (All lines)

They should be able to activate it from their end. On average it would take 15-20minutes . You will be asked to restart the set top after 20 minutes and connect the USB drive again.

If it doesnt start call them back again after 30 mins and explain that you called earlier and recording feature has not started asyet .
