Karan Johar’s remake of Agneepath which has Hrithik Roshan in the lead has been sold for an astronomical Rs. 41 Crores for its satellite rights, which makes up for 60% of the production costs. “We have acquired satellite rights of ‘Agneepath’ but cannot disclose terms of the deal.” Said Jayantilal Gada, CMD of Pen India, the agency that acquires satellite rights for Zee Cinema. The fact that Hrithik Roshan is also one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood today has added to the sentiment.

The trend of acquiring satellite rights for a new film even before its release is not new, but the prices at which these rights are bought, has gone up by more than 200%, say trade experts. Aamir Khan’s film ‘Dhuan’, which will hit the theatres in 2012, has fetched Rs. 40 Crores and it is being speculated that Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ may surpass all these!

‘Agneepath’ is slated for release in January 2012 and has been able to create the right noise around it. Hrithik will be reprising Big B’s character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan as in the original. Priyanka Chopra is the female lead in the film, while Sanjay Dutt will be seen as the loathsome Kancha Cheena, sporting a bald and brawny look!

All these figures may look impressive, but let’s hope the film impresses the audiences as well!
