With the deadline for Phase III of mandatory switchover to digital addressable system (DAS) fast approaching, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has issued 33 new provisional licences and one new permanent licence to multi-system operators (MSOs) across India to operate in the DAS notified areas.
While there is no pan-India player, all of these MSOs are regional and have got licences to operate in Phases III and IV of DAS in their respective states.
The only permanent licence has been awarded to Valarr Gokkulam from Coimbatore. The MSO can operate in the districts of Coimbatore, Nilgiri and Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu.
With these new licences, the number of provisional registrations has shot up to 126. Earlier, there were 93 MSOs who were given provisional licences as of 27 July 2015.

As reported earler by TelevisionPost.com, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to do away with the requirement of national security clearance for MSOs as part of its new policy guidelines aimed at facilitating ease of doing business and promoting investment in the country.
