last week
I visite Electronics section in big bazaar

ther I found Phillips 42" and 46 " , 32" Phillips LED with ddb technology

DDB means Direct Digital Broadcast,

that means tv can decode digital signal received from satellite, without using any set top box.

only few model of phiilps, Videocon, sansui are available in india with DDB technology

more details
DDB : Digital Direct Broadcast

DDB : Digital Direct Broadcast

when I check on backside
I found d2h digicard/Vc was fixed and satellite In port with cable connecting d2h antenna on roof.

This tv let u enjoy all d2h channels and service without buying any d2h stb.

I feel more such tvs to be come india and reduce dependacy on STB and STB manufacurers.

But simultaneously these must not be locked to particular dth service provider

currently available all Phillips, Videocon and sansui model are locked to d2h only.

People who are interested to buy new led or lcd can consider this option also
its having many advantage & some disdvantages
1) if u buy 42 or 46", d2h will give free installation of dish, saving rs500
2) no additional cost for hd stb, saving rs2500
3) 2 year subscription to south platinum hd/platinum hd channels (saving os rs rs11000)
4) can use USB
5) hdmi port can be used fro other gadets including stb of other dth or cable.
6) cost also compititive.
7) single remote, as no stb needed, hence no remote.
8) full hd

disadvantage
1) if u don't like d2h , then 2 or 1 year subscription is waste
2) can use other DTH smartcard/digicard/vc. its lock
3) don't know about software updates, as we receive in case of stb.
4)UI was not impressive.

I couldn't listen to AQ, but pq qas great with blu ray disk

cost of 42" 6000 series with 2 year subscription was rs 56k(appox)
cost of 32" 6000 series with 1 yesr usbciption is rs30k (appox)

details about product from website link given below
Philips 6000 series 42PFL6577/V7 - LED TV

Philips 6000 series 32PFL6977/V7 - LED TV

Expert comments expected

Does anyone using this tvs, then reviews plz

Good update Saket. Did you observe the quality of d2h in this tv? Because they are promoting both their d2h and this tv saying it will give great quality.

not seen d2h quality on tv via internal card,

but when I visited NEXT branded showroom
he had shown me d2h hd channel via hdmi. it was looking good

but sd of d2h was very poor, when seen on 32".

he said internal card will be activated after installation, he can t show demo.

but when press remote button, all channels lcn were present, showing error as singnal not receiving bcoz he didn't connected it to dish.

r u surprise to see my thread.

some member always takes my comments in nagative way.

thanks yuvi

I just want People must use these type of tv and saves in stb cost.

also more such DDb tv with open software shud come to india. currently all ddb tvs are locked with d2h card only.

which will be usefull for completing digitization faster.

sadly these tv are exist from more than 2years,
Phillips are advertisting but due to low penetration and locked dth operator not picking up market.

hope sony/Samsung and Toshiba also launch ddb tv in india soon.

Because only premium people can afford that price.

32 and 40 " DDb are well within budget

just compare price (32-40")of sony/Samsung /Panasonic + STB+ free subscription

u ll find Phillips DDB cheaper

Actually Videocon and Phillips DDB TVs are in the same price range as HDTVs from other brands. So price should not be a problem. In India HDTVs itself are picking up now. DDB needs awareness.

Since Videocon is part of the DDB consortium they are promoting both their dth platform and the television sets with Shahrukh Khan as the brand ambassador. It might be sometime until other dths join the DDB bandwagon.

DDB TVs are meant to be run on Over the air software upgrades. So we can always expect software upgrades from the manufacturer as features get added.
