Query regarding SD channels in ADHD

I just bought a 32" Sony LED TV.Previously i had 21" CRT.Now the TV mechanic said that by upgrading to HD you can still watch SD channels alone and that'll be in 720p res.Is that true?I mean the difference in video quality for SD Channels in normal SD box and HD box be different?Now i am currently in the basic south pack(south super value prime @185 pm).Suppose i upgrade to HD and still i want to watch only SD channels(Not any HD channels) will the monthly tariff change?Is that possible to pay and watch only sd channels in HD box?please help.Thanks

Yea you can see SD channels u can take any pack of Airtel on your wish
