Content distribution has changed over the last few years and Reliance Entertainment & Digital is planning to launch its Over-The-Top (OTT) platform to keep up with the new trend.

In an exclusive interview with NexTV India, Kushal Sanghvi, Business Head, Reliance Entertainment & Digital reveals that the company has started talks with all their stakeholders in a bid to set up their own OTT platform.

“We are in active discussions with everyone to create our own OTT platform. We realise that going forward the youth and, in fact, the majority of the audience are consuming content on the go. They are consuming more and more contents on their tablets or phones. In the coming times, I think most content company in India are going ahead with creating an OTT platform and in terms of content, it will be a mix of existing content already found on TV and some newly created as well,” said Sanghvi.

“What we are doing at Reliance is to get ahead with a huge range of new reality/original which is on our channels or on Big TV. You have seen the flavour which is pretty different and it is more in terms of a new style format of giving humour and it a huge focus on young adults. So this is what has gone into in terms of programming of content from our perspective,” he added.

However, the challenge Reliance Entertainment & Digital are facing from a company perspective is to keep in constant touch with the kind of content people are going to watch. As individuals, people are changing their habits on their preferences of contents they want to see.

“Programming is going through a huge change. Apart what works in India is Bollywood and cricket, we don’t know the third factor. For knowing the third one, we are trying to figure out whether it should be short format or long format, humour or something else. As a company we know that there is a huge opportunity out there and people are continually twitching with their phones now. With 4G which is coming to India in a broader sense, what we definitely know is that as a company we are making sure that either we partner with people who can create content for us as a Telco group or we could create content perhaps which are first of its kind. We are always trying to be the first movers in terms of bringing reality television to India, whether it is humour or soaps. We need to regularly figure out what sort of content everyone consumes and what we should produce for our people as well,” concluded Sanghvi.
