SAB launches comedy series on firefighter’s life
MUMBAI: In line with its ongoing programming revamp, SAB has launched a new comedy series revolving around a selfless firefighter’s life.
Titled ‘Chandrakant Chiplunkar Seedi Bambawala’, the new series features actors Prashant Damle and Kavita Lad as a Marathi–Gujarati couple. The show will premiere on 18 August, airing at 10 pm from Monday to Friday.
It will replace ‘Lapataganj’, one of the long-running shows on the channel, which ran for around 1,500 episodes.
SAB TV senior EVP and business head Anooj Kapoor said, “We keep trying to do different concepts all the time.
The concept of this show was devised by the director of ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ along with the show’s writer Raju Odedra. It was a great story and we decided to replace ‘Lapataganj’ as it had outlived its shelf life.”
Produced by Mehta’s NamanRaj Productions, the show revolved around the firefighters’ community and their families. It explores the humorous life of the Chiplunkar family and its mix of neighbours who always come together to help each other.
The plot gets its humour from Chandrakant Chiplunkar’s selflessness which prevents him from refusing to help any person, eventually landing him in a problem.
NamanRaj Productions’ producer Dharmesh Mehta said, “We have had an excellent relationship with SAB TV. In the past too, we have worked together on shows like ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, ‘RK Laxman Ki Duniya’ and ‘Paapad Pol’. With ‘Chandrakant Chiplunkar Seedi Bambawala’, we aim to offer viewers a look into the life of an ever-so-selfless firefighter and the funny situations he gets into.”
Prashant Damle, who will be making his foray into the Hindi television space through the show, will be accompanied by Shashikant, Naina Apte, Anang Desai, Ashish and Drisha.
Keeping in line with the programming refresh, SAB has recently signed long-term deals with some of its advertisers.
The channel has a line-up of three more properties for the months ahead. Coming up next is its annual awards property ‘SAB Ke Anokhe Awards’, which will be followed by a non-fiction reality show after a long break titled ‘Family Antakshari’. Bringing back the format in a reinvented way, the channel will commence the auditions for the show by the end of August. A third property currently in development stage is ‘Yam Hai Hum’ which will once again reflect the channel’s philosophy. SAB launches comedy series on firefighter’s life | TelevisionPost.com
